A bank robbery in Tampa came to an unexpected conclusion this week, as the suspect was turned in by none other than his own mother. Aaron Spencer, 33, has been taken into custody by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office following an incident last Thursday at a local Truist Bank, according to a sheriff’s office press release.
Wearing a mask and implying the threat of a pistol, Spencer reportedly demanded and obtained money from the bank teller shortly after 1 p.m. Not long after making his escape on foot, and discarding his clothes in a nearby parking lot, a concerned call from his mother led to a surprising rendezvous with law enforcement. Discarded by Spencer, his clothing was found in a nearby parking lot.
The turn of events unfolded rapidly when his mother contacted the sheriff’s office on the same day of the robbery, informing them of her son’s actions. “Her courage helped end a dangerous situation and reinforces the message that responsibility starts at home,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in the statement.
