Eugene gas prices drop over 12 cents, national average nears $3

EUGENE, Ore. — Gasoline prices in Eugene have seen a significant decrease, falling 12.2 cents per gallon over the past week to an average of $3.85 per gallon, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 78 stations in the area. This marks a 26.2-cent drop from a month ago, although prices remain 37.9 cents higher than this time last year. The cheapest station in Eugene was priced at $3.49 per gallon Sunday, while the most expensive reached $4.39 per gallon.

Nationally, the average price of gasoline has decreased by 6.4 cents per gallon in the last week, now averaging $3.02 per gallon. This is a 13.7-cent drop from a month ago and 14.4 cents lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has also decreased by 3.5 cents, standing at $3.628 per gallon.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, noted, “Americans appear to be on the cusp of seeing the national average drop below $3 per gallon for the first time in years, as prices have fallen across the vast majority of the country.” He added that with oil prices dropping below $60 per barrel, the trend of declining gas prices may continue, potentially leading to prices below $2 per gallon in some states like Oklahoma, Texas, or Wisconsin…
