ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A celebration in honor of the U.S. Navy’s 250th birthday was held Monday at the USS Slater in downtown Albany. On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress passed a resolution in Philadelphia establishing what is now the modern navy.

The Capital Area Chief Petty Officer Association was on board the historic destroyer as part of the ceremony. All Navy veterans were also offered complimentary admission for tours.
The USS Slater is the only destroyer from World War II that remains afloat in the United States.
