Asheville extends Helene Recovery Boards application deadline after public outcry

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Following public pushback from residents, the Asheville City Council is extending the application deadline for its Helene Recovery Boards, which will help guide how hundreds of millions in federal recovery dollars are spent.

The four temporary Helene Recovery Boards are designed to give residents a voice in the city’s long-term recovery from Hurricane Helene, focusing on housing, infrastructure, the economy, people and the environment. Members will advise the council on how to allocate more than $250 million expected through federal recovery programs such as Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding.
