Ohio witnessing migration wave as residents exit state in search of better opportunities

COLUMBUS, Ohio — When it comes to population growth in the state, central Ohio is by far the epicenter of where people and businesses are moving to. But as a state, projections by the Ohio Department of Development show the Buckeye State will lose more than 675,000 people by 2050 as more people die than they are born.

University of Miami Gerontology researcher Mike Nelson tracks these population shifts. What he sees happening with Ohio’s population is concerning.

“Just 14 out of Ohio’s 88 counties are experiencing growth while the remaining 74 are seeing declines,” he says…
