Double amputee forced to navigate flooded Uptown street for weeks

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A double amputee in Uptown New Orleans has been forced to roll her wheelchair through dirty standing water to reach transportation for her senior activities, as an underground leak has left her street flooded for more than a month.

Virginia Butler, who relies on a wheelchair, said she loves taking the bus from her Uptown home to a downtown senior center where she enjoys movies and bingo. But her journey has become increasingly difficult since flooding began on Fern Street.

“If they can’t park down here … he parks on the corner and rolls me down on the corner. I guess that’s how the sleeves of my shirt got all muddy,” Butler said Monday…
