Syracuse, N.Y. — Five years ago, on Columbus or Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Syracuse, Mayor Ben Walsh announced his plans to remove and relocate the statue of Christopher Columbus. He called for the creation of a new space, that would be called Heritage Park.
An advisory committee made up of community stakeholders falling on all different sides of the debate was formed.
