Myrtle Beach City Council OKs new regulations for electric scooters

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The Myrtle Beach City Council approved new rules for electric scooters, among other topics, during Tuesday morning’s meeting.

The new regulations were first introduced in September by Myrtle Beach police after a spike in traffic collisions over the past three years. The ordinance, which passed second reading on Tuesday and will officially go into effect, is an amendment to add Chapter 12, Article VII relating to the use of personal electric devices, or PEDs.

The city said last month it hoped to create a clear definition of what a PED is, establish where they can be driven, adopt safety regulations for how they can be driven, and establish penalties for violating the ordinance…
