Flood advisories in effect for Bay Area

(KRON) — The National Weather Service has issued flood advisories Monday for San Francisco, northwestern San Mateo County, southwestern Alameda, central Contra Costa County southeastern Marin, southeastern Napa and southeastern Sonoma.

“Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected,” the NWS flood advisory states.

Flooding could affect rush-hour traffic:

  • The advisory for San Francisco, San Mateo County remains in effect until 6:45 p.m.
  • The advisory for southwestern Alameda and central Contra Costa counties is in effect until 7:30 p.m.
  • The advisory for southeastern Marin, southeastern Napa and southeastern Sonoma are in effect until 6:30 p.m.

As much as half an inch of rain has already fallen across the area, according to the NWS. Stay with KRON4 for the latest weather info as the storm develops.

Drivers can expect minor flooding in low-lying areas with poor drainage.

“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads,” the NWS warns. “Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.”…
