Texas Goes Digital – And It’s About Time
If you’ve ever spent half your lunch break waiting at the DPS office or stared at a blinking cursor on some outdated state website wondering if it actually submitted, here’s some great news, Lubbock — the State of Texas is officially stepping into the 21st century.
The Texas Department of Information Resources just rolled out new features on its digital assistant, Texas by Texas (TxT) — and yes, it actually works. The platform already let you renew your driver’s license, vehicle registration, and even massage therapy licenses online, but now it’s expanding in a big way.
Now You Can Upgrade Your Driver’s License Online
One of the biggest wins for Lubbock families and young drivers: you can now upgrade a learner’s license to a provisional license online, as long as you’ve completed your driving test with a participating school.
That means fewer trips across town and fewer lines at DPS. And since this new feature lets teens aged 16–18 create limited-access TxT accounts, it’s a huge step toward modernizing how Texans — especially Lubbock’s next generation of drivers — handle their paperwork…
