A century-old, leaking dam that provides drinking water to several Birmingham area suburbs, which has been due for repairs for years, has just $1 million in liability insurance for emergencies and damage to surrounding areas.
Lake Purdy Dam, which has been rated as “high hazard” because of the potential damage a collapse could cause to the homes sitting nearby, was the subject of a budget work session this week at the water utility responsible for maintaining it.
