Local teen competes for Miss Teen USA, champions military kids with her platform

LOWCOUNTRY, S.C. (WCIV) — One local teen is set to compete on a national stage for Miss Teen USA Friday, and is using her time in the spotlight to help military children.

Leah Scarmeas, the newly crowned Miss SC Teen USA, joined Good Morning Charleston Tuesday to talk about her experiences competing for her title and how she is using it to give back to her community.

Scarmeas is a military child herself and is familiar with some of the struggles that they face. Through that connection she shaped her platform Rooted in Service, which aims to help military children connect with one another…
