Columbia lot may transform into retail hub with new design plan in Five Points

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A vacant lot along the 900 block of Harden Street could soon see new life as part of a proposed redevelopment project in Columbia’s Five Points district.

Bow Truss Capital is proposing a new single-story, 6,800-square-foot commercial building for the site, which sits between Harden and Walnut streets and is surrounded by other businesses.

A similar plan was approved in 2020, but developers reworked the layout to better fit the pedestrian area. The updated design includes a large patio, screened parking, and new landscaping to create a more walkable streetscape…
