Asheville City Council addresses proposed social district, noise ordinance amendment

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Asheville City Council members convened Tuesday to address several key agenda items related to ongoing recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene.

The council unanimously approved an agreement with the state’s Department of Commerce’s Division of Community Revitalization to “provide repair and reconstruction for Asheville homeowners” impacted by the storm, per a press release from the city. This means the city will partner with the state’s RenewNC Homeowner Repair and Reconstruction Program.

The council also discussed a proposed event-based social district program, which received mixed reviews during public comment. The district would focus specifically on events in the South Slope area of downtown, and could change the alcohol sales model for 2026 events.
