Buncombe County man sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to trafficking drugs

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — A man will spend at least 5.8 years in prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges in Buncombe County court on Monday, Oct. 13.

The district attorney’s office said 55-year-old Warren Daryl Brathwaite pleaded guilty to two counts of trafficking opium/heroin after a traffic stop earlier this year turned up fentanyl and crack cocaine.

According to the district attorney’s office, Asheville police officers pulled Brathwaite over on May 21, 2025, for an insurance violation and uncovered a total of 37 grams of fentanyl, 14.68 grams of crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and more than $7,400 in cash…
