Sacramento Activates Emergency Shelters Ahead of Rainfall, Free Rides on SacRT for Weather Respite

Residents of Sacramento bracing for consecutive days of rain can find respite as the city has activated emergency measures to provide shelter. According to a report by Sacramento City Express, the city’s Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC) began operations at 3 p.m. yesterday and will remain open until 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Walk-ups are welcome at the OEC located at 3615 Auburn Blvd., which can house up to 50 guests. Facilities include storage for personal items, and the center is adept at accommodating pets. In addition to the OEC, locals seeking shelter can access other public buildings, such as libraries, and community centers during normal business hours.

For individuals requiring assistance to reach these weather-respite sites, the city has coordinated with Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT). SacRT is offering no-cost rides to and from the centers while in operation – passengers just need to present a screenshot or printout of a designated SacRT flyer to the bus operator, or show it to the light rail fare inspection staff upon request, as detailed by the Sacramento City Express…
