Officer sees miracle as woman he arrested two years ago overcomes addiction

Quinton McDuffie said it often takes a miracle for people addicted to drugs such as methamphetamine and fentanyl to get clean and stay that way, and he got to witness one of those as a Morgan County woman he previously arrested marks 13 months of living drug-free.

McDuffie, an adjunct criminal justice professor at Calhoun Community College and active law enforcement officer, said he arrested Kaitlyn Elkins in 2023 for outstanding warrants while he was working as an investigator with the Fugitive Unit at the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. Elkins told him she would go to rehab after she was released from custody, something he said he has heard thousands of times through the years from individuals he has arrested who never keep their promise…
