Colorado working to update rules on elevators at mines after tour guide’s death

DENVER — The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety said this week it is proposing stricter oversight for tourist mines, a year after a tour guide died at a mine in Teller County.

The division said the new rules would require elevator certification, more inspections, better record-keeping and improved communications systems at tourist mines.

Stakeholders and members of the public interested in the rulemaking process and making public comment can attend a hearing at 9 a.m. Nov. 13 at the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, 1313 Sherman St. There will also be a virtual option…
