On Wednesday, Austin’s mayor told KVUE the city still plans to remove street art and painted crosswalks to comply with an order from Governor Greg Abbott.
This is the first time KVUE has spoken with Mayor Kirk Watson in person since the state directive was issued one week earlier on October 8.
Under that order, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) told cities and counties to remove decorative crosswalks, murals, or messages that don’t serve a traffic or safety purpose.
