In a potential hit to the region’s economy, the headquarters of two U.S. Army commands will move from San Antonio to North Carolina before the end of the year, the Army chief of staff said.
Army North (formerly the 5th Army) and Army South (formerly the 6th Army) are now based at Fort Sam Houston. They will be merged into a new Western Hemisphere Command whose headquarters will be at Fort Bragg, N.C.
