(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A man in Colorado Springs stopped in to Vitalant’s donation center on Austin Bluffs Parkway to make his 560th donation!
Anthony Lopez has been donating blood for just shy of 60 years, donating for the first time in Illinois in 1966. Fast forward to Oct. 14, 2025, and you’ll find Lopez back in the chair to give his 70th gallon of blood.
“I think if you have the time, you should try and donate. It doesn’t take much out of your day to do it, and people will appreciate it. It’s a good thing,” Lopez said during a short conversation with FOX21 Photojournalist Jaiden Kelsey
With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Vitalant would like to remind all that breast cancer affects one in eight women in their lifetime, and that 25% of their blood supply is used to help all types of cancer patients.
While donations from all blood types are needed and greatly appreciated, type O-negative blood is only found in 7% of the population, and acts as the universal blood used in emergencies. O-positive, on the other hand, can help anyone with a positive blood type…
