El Paso County Deputies’ Restraint Applauded After Recovery of Stolen Vehicle Leads to Connection with Separate Crime

El Paso County authorities were prompted into action after a stolen vehicle, reported by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, was spotted near B Street and South Academy late at night on Sunday. Deputies readily responded, only to find the vehicle attempting to make a fast escape upon their arrival, as noted by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

The situation escalated when the deputies initiated a traffic stop on B Street. In an apparent bid to avoid apprehension, the driver opted to quickly drive the stolen car in the opposite direction of traffic, forcing deputies to make the decision not to engage in a pursuit to avoid unnecessarily putting the public at risk. A short while later, at around 11:44 PM, an accident was reported involving the stolen vehicle, which had crashed into a barrier. The deputies arrived swiftly at B Street and Highway 85 to find the vehicle abandoned.

In their search, the El Paso County deputies came across a wallet in the car, connecting the situation to a separate criminal trespass incident previously reported by the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). However, no suspects were located immediately in the vicinity of the crash. Despite this, the vehicle and the wallet were subsequently returned to their rightful owners…
