Federal authorities announce charges related to alleged misuse of L.A. homelessness funds

Federal officials held a press conference Thursday morning to announce charges and arrests related to the alleged misuse of funds meant to tackle Los Angeles’ homelessness crisis.

Representatives from the FBI, the IRS and the U.S. Department of Justice spoke during the news conference, which began at 11 a.m. at the U.S. Courthouse on Spring Street.

The arrests are related to an embattled real estate developer accused of pocketing state homelessness funds through California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Project Homekey initiative, which turns old hotels into transitional housing for the unhoused…
