VIDEO: Hundreds of Texas lottery tickets found on northwest Austin road sparks review

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation said it’s reviewing an incident in which piles of lottery tickets were found discarded in northwest Austin last week.

A KXAN viewer sent videos of the tickets on Oct. 10 and said they were scattered along Hymeadow Drive in north Austin.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), which took over the Texas Lottery last month, said via email Thursday morning that it was “aware of a recent incident involving discarded draw game tickets found in North Austin,” and that its review of the incident is ongoing.

According to TDLR, the tickets were sold by a former licensed retailer that previously sold tickets through an online application before the legislature passed bills that banned lottery courier services and required players to purchase tickets and scratch-offs at brick-and-mortar retailers with cash.

That legislation followed a February move by the Texas Lottery Commission to ban lottery courier services in the state after pressure from state lawmakers to do so.
