I-TEAM: Iberville Sheriff set to apologize to family of deceased St. Gabriel officer over comments after his death

ST. GABRIEL, La. (WAFB) – Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi said he will apologize to the family of Devin Boutte and the St. Gabriel Police Department after making comments about the deceased officer in the wake of his death.

On July 7, 2025, Sheriff Stassi told the WAFB I-TEAM that he asked the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office to investigate allegations of corruption he believed Boutte was involved in. The sheriff said that the request was made just 10 days before Boutte was found dead.

“The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation had recently opened an investigation into police corruption in St. Gabriel upon referral from Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi,” The AG’s office told WAFB. “That matter has now been closed and returned to the Sheriff for a homicide investigation.”

Now, Stassi tells the WAFB I-TEAM the investigation by the Attorney General’s Office has wrapped up and resulted in no findings because witnesses wouldn’t cooperate…
