Amarillo Doctor Responds to Tylenol and Autism Claims

One of the bigger storylines in the country recently was the report stating that Acetaminophen has been causing autism in babies being born when the mother takes it during her pregnancy. In Amarillo, doctors & pediatricians are starting to get more questions about it as well.

Many are concerned about the report and second-guessing their choice to take it during their pregnancy. So, is it safe to take during a pregnancy? One Amarillo pediatrician seems to think so.

Why Are There Questions About Tylenol Usage

According to the Amarillo pediatrician, who has had as many as 10 people ask about it per day, he feels that Tylenol is still a good thing to be able to take during pregnancy. He has a good reason for stating that as well.

He said that the concern came from a study showing a POSSIBLE association of the use of Tylenol causing autism, but no actual cause or correlation of the two.

Is It Actually Safe Still

He went on to reference a study that was more recently done in 2024, and said that particular study actually debunked the theory that Acetaminophen causes autism. So there are still definitely some questions, but he believes that it’s still the right move to take Tylenol during a pregnancy…
