New Mexico-Colorado – Freeze Watch: Sub-Freezing Temps Could Hit 20°F by Friday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A Freeze Watch is in effect from Thursday evening through Friday morning for the Upper Rio Grande Valley, where sub-freezing temperatures could drop as low as 28°F near Taos and as low as 20°F closer to the Colorado border. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque issued the alert Wednesday morning, warning residents of potentially damaging cold conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and sensitive vegetation, with unprotected outdoor plumbing also at risk of damage. The watch extends across much of north-central New Mexico, including Taos, Española, and surrounding rural valleys where cold air tends to settle overnight.

Residents are urged to take immediate precautions by covering plants, bringing potted vegetation indoors, and insulating exposed pipes. Farmers and ranchers should prepare for potential crop damage, particularly in low-lying fields…
