KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — City leaders are working to make finding a parking spot in downtown Knoxville much easier. As the city continues to grow, leaders are updating how people park — replacing aging meters, adding new technology and offering more options for downtown workers.
In March, amongst other changes, he city retired its old parking meters and introduced the ParkMobile app, allowing drivers to pay digitally instead of with coins.
“The meters were really at the end of life, and we had to replace them,” Deputy Chief of Operations Chip Barry said. “We wanted to put a system in place that would take us at least 10 years into the future because we know downtown is growing and the demand for parking is only going to increase.”…
