Wheatsville Co-op backing out of plan to buy more stores

AUSTIN, Texas — A popular Austin-based grocery store is dropping its plans to buy and open two new grocery stores.

Wheatsville Co-op Board President Brandon Hines said economic plans and other obstacles led to the timing not being right to expand.

The co-op’s Guadalupe store is still expected to close at the end of its lease term which is slated for Dec. 31, 2026. Bickford said after exploring real estate options, the co-cop does not anticipate finding and opening a store in the 15 months that are left on its lease term…
