Lake Caroline residents seek legal relief with high CMU bills

The Lake Caroline Owners’ Association has filed two petitions with the Mississippi Public Service Commission seeking to cancel recent water and sewer rate increases by Canton Municipal Utilities, alleging the utility failed to provide proper notice to its customers.

In twin filings dated Wednesday, Oct. 15, the homeowners’ association also asks the commission to revoke CMU’s authority to provide water and sewer service to the area, citing claims of inadequate service, poor water quality, and sewer overflows.

The petitions allege that rate increases for both water and sewer, approved by the PSC on May 1, are “void, unenforceable, and illegal” because CMU did not provide the legally required notice to affected customers.
