(WRGB) — October 16, 2025, proved to be a busy day in courtrooms around the Capital Region, with several major cases seeing significant updates — including murder arraignments, guilty verdicts, and ongoing jury deliberations.

Brother charged in sister’s death arraigned:

60-year-old Alphonso Lester was arraigned in Albany City Court Thursday morning, accused of killing his sister, Angela Helms, inside an Albany home Wednesday.

Lester pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and first-degree burglary. According to police, the attack happened around 8 AM on Hudson Avenue, where neighbors reported hearing yelling before Helms was found dead.

Investigators say Lester struck his sister with a blunt object before fleeing. He was arrested later that day after an hours-long standoff with police on Western Avenue. No officers were hurt…
