Delaware Officials Warn of Fake Cannabis Dispensary Scam Targeting University of Delaware

The Delaware Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement (DATE) is warning residents about a fraudulent marijuana operation in Newark that is attempting to pass itself off as a licensed dispensary.

Officials say counterfeit business cards and flyers have been circulating around the University of Delaware and nearby neighborhoods, claiming to represent Fresh Delaware, a legitimate marijuana business. The impostors are reportedly trying to lure customers into purchasing unregulated marijuana products. According to DATE, no licensed recreational dispensary in Delaware is authorized to deliver marijuana or related products. Only licensed medical marijuana dispensaries can provide deliveries, and only to registered patients.

The agency emphasized that Delaware’s regulated marijuana market is built on strict rules, including product testing for contaminants such as pesticides, mold, and heavy metals. Unlicensed sellers bypass these safeguards, putting consumers at risk.
