Nebraska Traffic Stop Leads to a Meth Bust so Big, It Would Make Walter White Blush

Just about any police officer out there will tell you that there’s no such thing as a “routine” traffic stop. Each one is different, like an awkward, tiresome, potentially dangerous snowflake. This recent Kansas example certainly makes a case for that belief. Police in the state carried out a traffic stop just as they would any day, just to uncover a massive stockpile of meth hiding in a woman’s car.

Kansas police busted a 47-year-old Georgia woman with 130 lbs of meth during a run-of-the-mill traffic stop

A 47-year-old woman from Smyrna, Georgia, was driving on Interstate 80 near Omaha when flashing lights and sirens prompted her to pull over. A lone Nebraska state trooper stopped the driver on the side of the highway for an undisclosed reason.

Whatever the reason for the traffic stop, the trooper’s suspicion quickly grew. He called for backup. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, a K-9 unit from the nearby Papillion Police Department responded. Working dogs receive training to specialize in finding everything from drugs to explosive devices, making them helpful assets for law enforcement.

The dog signaled its handler that it had picked up the scent of illicit substances around the trunk of the car, prompting the police on the scene to search it. The contents? Trash bags containing around 130 lbs of methamphetamine. The NSP showcased the confiscated meth at an event earlier this week.

Needless to say, the Georgia woman is in some seriously hot water. According to Olsen Law in Omaha, a “possession with intent to deliver” charge is a Class 2 felony. As for penalties, the woman is looking at a mandatory minimum sentence of one year…
