Yesterday, the Will County Board voted 12 to 10 to not raise the levy, which was a surprise to Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant. Bertino-Tarrant had proposed a 2-percent increase in the levy for FY2026.
Bertino-Tarrant told WJOL that a wrinkle in the plan came when she didn’t have all of the Democrats on the Board vote in favor of the 2-percent levy increase. Romeoville Democrat Destinee Ortiz voted against the levy increase.
Now, Bertino-Tarrant is advising that without the increase in the levy, Will County will have to tackle around $3.5 million in program cuts. There is a Special Finance meeting scheduled for Tuesday, when the 12 members who voted against the levy increase must come up with program cuts to account for the lost $3.5 M…
