Trevor Double’s appeal denied, sentence upheld in 2021 Van Buren County torture case

PAW PAW, Mich. — The Michigan Court of Appeals recently rejected an appeal made by a Van Buren County man who is currently serving decades in prison for the torture, assault, and unlawful imprisonment of a 24-year-old woman.

Trevor Double, 46, of Bangor Township, was found guilty in 2022 of torture, first degree criminal sexual conduct, unlawful imprisonment, and assault bodily harm less than murder.

Kaila McCleary said the two met on a dating app and went on one date in 2021. In early April of that year, the 24-year-old said he showed up to her Battle Creek home unannounced to pick her up to go to breakfast for their second date.

She said he nearly beat her to death and held her against her will in his parents’ Van Buren County home for three weeks. Double told the prosecution that his parents were on vacation in another state, per court records…
