TDOC transitions to digital mail for inmates

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) announced it willtransition from physical mail to scanned, digitized personal mail for inmates beginning next month.

Beginning on Nov. 3, mail meant for inmates will be received at an off-site, centralized facility, where it will be processed, scanned, and delivered in a digital format to inmates via their TDOC-issued tablets, according to a release.

The department’s goal is to reduce contraband and increase security while providing faster and more reliable mail delivery to inmates.

Mail compliant with TDOC’s inmate mail policy will now be scanned and displayed on theinmate’s tablet as written.
