Arkansas DHS takes action after improper restraint leads to resident’s death

WARREN, Ark. (KTVE/KARD) — On September 7, a behavior incident that led staff to use physical and chemical restraints resulted in the passing of an adult resident of the Southeast Arkansas Human Development Center.

Upon review, it was found that the staff did not follow protocol, which has resulted in the Department of Human Services (DHS) taking action to discipline employees and to investigate the incident.

11 DHS employees have been placed on administrative leave, and one additional employee has been terminated as part of ongoing actions at the Southeast Arkansas Human Development Center. DHS has also named an interim superintendent for the facility…
