Charges filed against man who drove tow truck in chase, crash that hurt Madison officer

MADISON, Wis. — Charges were filed Friday against a man who police said was behind the wheel of a tow truck that crashed head-on into a Madison police officer’s squad car, seriously injuring the officer.

Christopher Brugger, 36, of Madison faces over a dozen felony and misdemeanor counts including first-degree recklessly endangering safety, eluding an officer causing great bodily harm, hit-and-run involving great bodily harm and reckless driving causing great bodily harm.

Prosecutors said Brugger led police on a chase in a tow truck, driving through medians and ditches and hitting multiple vehicle. The chase ended when Brugger crashed head-on into the squad car of Officer Ryan Kimberely…
