Albany County proposed 2026 budget raises tax levy but cuts tax rate

ALBANY — Albany County Executive Dan McCoy released his proposed 2026 budget on Wednesday, which raises the tax levy while lowering the tax rate.

The overall budget is $902 million, a 6% increase over last year’s $847 million budget. The budget relies on nearly $21 million from the county’s general fund, which is projected to be $138 million at the end of 2025.

The tax levy is $103.7 million, an increase of $2 million from 2025. The tax rate will fall to $2.56 per $1,000 in assessed property value, down from $2.73 per $1,000 this year…
