From College Grad to City Dweller: One Local’s Journey to Independence
For many recent college graduates, the dream of immediate independence often clashes with the harsh realities of post-grad life. This was certainly the case for one local, whose journey from an off-campus apartment to her childhood home and finally to a new city offers a relatable glimpse into navigating financial challenges and personal growth.
After earning her degree in 2021, the author’s initial plans to remain in her off-campus apartment quickly unraveled. With student loan payments exceeding $600 a month, her part-time income simply couldn’t cover both rent and loan obligations.
The prospect of graduate school, with its associated financial burden, also became an immediate impossibility. The decision was made: it was time to move back in with mom.
