If Michigan had a state motto for 2025, it might as well be: “Now Hiring.” Stellantis — yes, the automotive giant whose name sounds like a fancy bottled water — just announced a massive $230 million investment that will bring more than 900 new, good-paying union jobs to the Mitten. That’s right, nearly a thousand more reasons for Michiganders to stop looking for jobs out of state.
According to the press release from Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Office, two of Michigan’s proudest auto towns just got some turbocharged good news.
The Warren Truck Assembly plant will get a $100 million upgrade (and those 900 new jobs) to produce a new SUV — one that comes in both internal combustion and range-extended electric versions.
Meanwhile, Detroit Assembly Complex – Jefferson will see a $130 million infusion to gear up for the next-generation Dodge Durango. Production won’t kick off until 2029, which gives you plenty of time to save for one…or at least the keychain.
Governor Whitmer touts this as another step in Michigan’s comeback tour. Between this and other wins, Lansing reports that the state has added over 36,000 auto jobs since 2023. As she put it in the press release, “We don’t care what you drive—gas, diesel, hybrid, or electric—as long as it’s made in Michigan.”…
