LTSC’s Umeya Wins Supportive Housing Development of the Year

Little Tokyo Service Center’s latest affordable housing development, Umeya, won Supportive Housing Development of the Year at the SCANPH (Southern California Association of Nonprofit Housing) Homes Within Reach Awards, held on Sept.10 at Terasaki Budokan.

Bringing 175 units of affordable housing (half of which are set aside as permanent supportive housing), Umeya brings deeply needed housing to the intersection of Skid Row and Little Tokyo. Built in partnership with local Skid Row organizations, the project also stands to serve as a resource hub with workshops for residents and community members alike.

“We’re looking back to our roots of activism and organizing with this project,” said LTSC Co-Executive Director Takao Suzuki. “The reason why we’re doing this is to build community, and to protect the residents that live in our projects.”…
