Police: Driver traveling at 60 mph+ before causing chain reaction crash at train crossing

Police believe the driver of a Toyota RAV4 was impaired and speeding more than 60 mph before he caused a chain reaction crash at a train crossing in northeast Minneapolis.

According to a search warrant application filed in Hennepin County, officers believe the 32-year-old man from Fridley who caused the crash was traveling around 68-69 mph when he plowed into another vehicle at a train crossing.

Minneapolis Police Department say the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at the crossing on Central Avenue Northeast. The woman driving the Cadillac Escalade rear-ended by the Toyota driver suffered a broken pelvis in the incident.

Preliminary information indicates the woman was stopped at the crossing waiting for a train to pass when the Toyota RAV4 struck her vehicle from behind, causing both vehicles to be pushed into the train…
