Homewood police remind residents of scooter laws and safety requirements

The Homewood Police Department is urging residents to familiarize themselves with Alabama’s scooter laws, emphasizing that scooters are classified as motor vehicles under state law. This classification subjects them to the same regulations as motorcycles and cars. According to Alabama law, a scooter is defined as a device weighing less than 100 pounds, equipped with an electric motor and handlebars, and capable of reaching a maximum speed of 20 mph when powered solely by the electric motor.
