Midwest Passenger rail project advances with $650K from Ft. Wayne, Ohio

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, along with the City of Fort Wayne and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission, has committed $650,000 in local funds to develop a passenger rail corridor connecting Chicago and Pittsburgh with stops in Columbus and Fort Wayne.

The funding commitment, submitted to the Federal Railroad Administration for the Midwest Connect Passenger Rail project, includes approximately $400,000 from communities in Ohio. This investment is crucial for advancing to Step Two of the FRA’s Corridor ID program, which will focus on shaping routes and station planning.
