Psychologist shares insights on men skipping routine checkups

Helping men stick with routine medical care

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Routine medical checkups are crucial for early illness detection, yet many men across the country are skipping these vital appointments, according to Dr. Danielle Henderson, a clinical psychologist at Indiana University Health.

During a visit to News 8 “Daybreak” on Saturday, Henderson said that men often delay or entirely avoid medical care, even when it is necessary. The trend has persisted despite the importance of regular checkups in preventing serious health issues. “We’re still seeing that men are delaying their medical care, or sometimes not even going at all, even when it’s really important that they do.”

Henderson said several factors contribute to men’s reluctance to attend routine checkups. They include difficulties in scheduling appointments, anxiety about visiting the doctor, and fear of receiving bad news…
