HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Huntsville and Madison County Railroad is in the final design and construction phase for a federally funded infrastructure project that includes replacing the collapsed Aldridge Creek Bridge, with completion targeted for December 2027, a railroad official tells FOX54.
The railroad is awaiting approval from the Federal Railroad Administration before accepting construction bids, according to John Peek, the line’s general manager. The project, funded through the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements program, encompasses significant upgrades beyond the bridge replacement.
The work will include installation of 10,000 crossties, construction of three sidings totaling approximately 10,000 feet, 13 miles of track surfacing and replacement of the Aldridge Creek Bridge near Hobbs Island Road and Memorial Parkway…
