Man stuffs toys in his pocket and takes alcohol from Walmart without paying

A Tavares man will appear in court for allegedly putting toys in his pocket and taking alcohol from Walmart without paying.

An officer responded to Walmart, located at 2501 Citrus Blvd., regarding 53-year-old Richard Deine detained in their office for theft around 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, according to a case report from the Leesburg Police Department.

A loss prevention employee advised that he was watching the store’s security cameras when he saw Deine open a package and put the item in his pocket while in the toy aisle. He then walked to the Grab-and-Go section where he grabbed 16 Strawberry-Rita BuzzBallz and put them into a reusable shopping bag he brought into the store, the report said.

Deine proceeded to walk toward the exit doors without paying, where he was stopped by loss prevention. They brought him to their office and asked him to take the item out of his pocket. He did so, revealing a harmonica and a Simon Says electronic game. The toys and alcohol totaled $57.53, the report said…
