‘No Kings’ protest held Downtown Amarillo on Saturday

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Today, the “No Kings” protest took place at the Old City Hall building in Downtown Amarillo. Protesters gathered on Saturday afternoon for a peaceful rally organized by the national “No Kings” movement, protesting the direction of the country under President Donald Trump.

The event, held from 2 to 6 p.m., aimed to unite residents under the slogan “In America, we don’t have kings.” Organizers said the movement emphasizes nonviolent action and community engagement while rejecting political corruption and abuse of power.

Participants held signs with quotes “Silence is violence,” “No kings”, and “United we stand, divided we fall,” and chanted slogans promoting accountability in government. Among those attending was Amarillo resident Karen Burns, who said she joined the protest to express frustration over the country’s direction.

“What Trump is doing to this country is absolutely appalling,” Burns said. “He’s taking away our rights, our Medicare and our kids’ healthcare. It’s really important that we all protest, that’s the only way we’re going to get our democracy back.”
