As the federal government shutdown drags into its third week, the City of El Paso is stepping up to provide assistance to residents feeling the pinch. Since October 1, many federal employees have been furloughed, and federal services have decreased to a skeleton crew, leaving many without paychecks and access to regular services. In an effort to mitigate the impact of the shutdown, El Paso has launched a dedicated website to guide locals through these uncertain times.
The newly created online resource is designed to give residents a rundown of which federal agencies are closed or running on limited capacity, information that is essential for daily functioning for many. Additionally, the website points to local agencies that are jumping in to provide support where the federal government has stepped back. According to a recent Facebook post by the City of El Paso, Texas – Municipal Government, “The City of El Paso has created a website for residents to obtain information and support for those impacted by the federal government shutdown.”
